A group of men enjoy a game of curling on Jamaica Pond circa 1900. Curling is thought to have been invented in late medieval Scotland and uses a rounded, flat-bottomed granite stone that is slid across the ice towards a target area. The broom is used to sweep the ice surface in the path of the stone to make the stone travel farther or alter course. Curling was a very popular sport on Jamaica Pond during the winter months.
