Guests at a “Hoeing Surprise Party” pose at the Curtis Farm on June 4, 1873 before setting out for work in the field. A small brass band can be seen at the right. Photograph courtesy of Martha Tyer Curtis and the late Nelson Curtis Jr.

A map annotated courtesy of Mark Bulger shows the location of the buildings shown in the photograph. This at the current intersection of Centre and Moraine Streets where a CVS Pharmacy stands today. The “X” marks the spot from which the photograph was taken:

The photograph shows three buildings in a row, with the furthest away being a house - note the porch roof. Beyond the corner of the porch roof, a close look shows another house in the background. That would be the B.F. Wing house on the corner of Boylston Street.
